Sergeant Major Carl J. Jacobsen
Sergeant Major Jacobsen is a native of Salt Lake City, Utah. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on September 4, 2002 and attended recruit training at MCRD Parris Island. Following Marine Combat Training at School of Infantry-East (SOI-East) aboard Camp Geiger, North Carolina, Privet First Class Jacobsen attended his Military Occupational School (MOS) in Aberdeen, Maryland and earned the 2111 (Small Arms Repairman) MOS. He was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal in April 2003 and he was subsequently assigned to Marine Corps Security Force Company, Bahrain. While assigned to Marine Corps Security Force Company, Lance Corporal Jacobsen participated in numerous exercises in the United States Central Command theater.
In March 2004, Lance Corporal Jacobsen was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal and received orders to Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools (MCCSSS) Camp Johnson, North Carolina. While assigned to MCCSSS, Corporal Jacobsen supported units from across Camp Johnson to include the Logistics Operations School. Upon completion of this assignment, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant and requested orders to a Special Duty Assignment.
In June 2006, Sergeant Jacobsen was selected to attend Drill Instructor School at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. After graduating DI School, he was assigned to Company A, 1st Recruit Training Battalion. He was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in January 2008. After completing his tour on Drill Instructor duty, Staff Sergeant Jacobsen received orders to 3d Battalion, 8th Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
In February 2010, Staff Sergeant Jacobsen deployed with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), ending his deployment in Helmand Providence, Afghanistan as the battalion Armory Chief. In April 2012, Staff Sergeant Jacobsen was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. Then in May 2012, he assumed the billet of Logistical Operations Chief and deployed to Camp Geronimo, Afghanistan in support of the battalion's combat operations.
In May 2013, Gunnery Sergeant Jacobsen received orders to the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy at Camp Johnson, North Carolina. During his time at the Academy, Gunnery Sergeant Jacobsen became the Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge, the Regional Coordinator for Corporals Course, and the Chief faculty Advisor for the Advanced Course.
In October 2016, Gunnery Sergeant Jacobsen was selected to First Sergeant and assigned as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader for Kilo Company, 3d Battalion, 6th Marines. He also served as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader for Delta Company, 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division, while assigned to Inspector-Instructor duty in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In February 2021, Sergeant Major Jacobsen was promoted to his current rank and assigned as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL) for 2d Radio Battalion, II Marine Information Group. In May 2023 he was assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 461. Sergeant Major Jacobsen assumed his current billet as the Officer Candidates School Command Senior Enlisted Leader August 16th 2024.
Sergeant Major Jacobsen's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with two gold star in lieu of third award, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
